2019 Newport Christmas Parade

The Newport Christmas parade will be Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. The parade committee is seeking floats, antique vehicles, beauty queens, horseback riders, etc. from school groups, area clubs or businesses. Participants will be traveling down Hwy. 69 to Malcolm Avenue then down to Village Mall parking lot.Plaques will be awarded for first, second and third place for both the commercial and non-commercial categories.

Entry is free, and participants may choose their own holiday theme. However, since the real Santa will be flying in early as the last entry in the parade, please do not incorporate a “fake” Santa into your float.

Float judging will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, parade participants will be notified of an alternate date. For more info, call 523-3618 or click on the entry form below.

Hype the Hound

The parade committee is excited to feature Hype the Hound as the Grand Marshal for the 2019 Newport Christmas Parade.

The Newport School District’s new mascot debuted in August just in time for this year’s football season. Hype has done an exceptional job leading the crowd in support of the Newport Greyhounds, but who is Hype the Hound? We had a sit-down interview with the mascot and learned a lot about this one-of-a-kind dog.

Hype’s family originates from England, British Isles. One of 12 brothers and sisters, it is not surprising that most of Hypes siblings are successful racers. How fast can Hype run? “It depends if I’m on two legs or four,” stated Hype.

Hype’s favorite color is orange, favorite song is “Who Let the Dogs Out” and favorite food is Kibbles ‘n Bits. Hype does not have a favorite sport but loves humans who are team players.

Hype’s strengths? A positive leader and and unending desire to be the best.

Hypes weaknesses? Shock collars and electric fences!

Hype does not currently have a significant other but is “playing the field.”

Bring the family to see Hype the Hound and the Newport Christmas parade beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 12.
