June 16 (Category Music/Concert)  Monster Groovez Concert featuring the Side Street Steppers.  What began as a duo of musicians unearthing material from the Golden Age of American gramophone recording has grown into a full-blown Memphis institution.  From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Terry Scoggins Memorial Stage, 412 Front Street in downtown Newport.  Free admission and kid friendly.  Bring your lawn chair or blanket.  Coolers welcome. July 21  (Category Music/Concert)  Monster Groovez Concert featuring Cliff and Susan, a married international touring duo armed with a piano, fiddle and guitar based in Little Rock. July 25 (Category Event, Music/Concert)  Monster Fun Nights featuring Zinse Agginie’s Drums of Africa.  People become characters – big cats, reptiles, birds, insects, spiders, etc. – in Zinse Agginie’s stories and learn about simple life lessons. His audience is taken on a cultural, geographical and anthropological tour of the deserts, savannas and rain forests of Africa. Using his djembe and odono drums, Africa’s number one storyteller adds song and rhythm to his tales. Participants get to learn to play the African drums at the end of the performance.  From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Newport Business Resource Center, 201 Hazel Street in Newport.  Hosted by Monster Nights: Newport’s Downtown Entertainment Series.

September 1 (Category Event)  Monster Family Nights featuring the Wizard of Oz by Stevens Puppets at 7 p.m.  Stevens Puppets tours fully-staged productions of fairy-tales and classic children’s literature, featuring hand-carved wooden marionettes in front of colorfully hand-painted scenery. September 19 (Category Event)  Monster Fun Nights featuring A Spanish Fiesta with Cazateatro. Come learn Spanish dances, Spanish foods and how to have great time.  Cazateatro Independent Theatre’s mission is to spread and share their Latin American culture through the scenic arts in order to create a unifying bridge for the community.  Held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Newport Business Resource Center, 201 Hazel Street in downtown Newport.  Free admission.  Hosted by Monster Nights: Newport’s Downtown Entertainment Series.

September 25-26 (Category Festival, Music/Concert, Arts & Crafts) The 23rd Annual Depot Days Festival will be held on September 25-26 on historic Front Street in downtown Newport.  The festival is a showcase of local, regional and national talent paying tribute to the early history of Rock and Roll.  Old U.S. Highway 67, which runs through the heart of Newport and Jackson County, was home for dozens of roadhouses and nightclubs which hosted early shows by rock pioneers in the 1950s and 60s.   Depot Days includes live music, tours of the Rock and Roll Highway 67 Museum, food, arts & crafts, and a bbq cooking contest.
